Mari Carlesimo, JD is the Director of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program (CPCP) at New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. CPCP initiatives include a Colonoscopy Patient Navigation Program, a Colonoscopy Quality Benchmarking Initiative, management of the Citywide Colon Cancer Control Coalition (C5) and health promotion projects targeting communities with disparities. Prior to this, Mari worked at the American Cancer Society (ACS), serving as Interim Executive Vice President for their NY Metro Region, which raises over $50 million dollars annually and serves over 24,000 cancer patients and caregivers. During her six years at ACS, Mari also directed their Colonoscopy Screening Program for the Uninsured, which has screened over 20,000 New Yorkers since its inception nine years ago. Prior to ACS, Mari worked at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), spearheading HHC’s colonoscopy screening initiative, and serving as Co-Director of their Chronic Disease Collaborative. Prior to HHC, she worked as a housing and criminal defense attorney for the NYC’s Legal Aid Society. And prior to Legal Aid, Mari worked for NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development where she served in various roles including Assistant Commissioner of the Housing Litigation Bureau, the legal department that enforces NYC’s housing codes.
