Dr. Karen Kim is a Professor of Medicine, Dean for Faculty Affairs for the Division of Biological Sciences, Associate Director of the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center and Director of the University of Chicago Medicine Comprehensive Cancer Center Office of Community Engagement and Cancer Disparities. Dr. Kim established and directs the University of Chicago Center for Asian Health Equity, the only research center dedicated to the study of Asian health disparities in the Midwest. Under Dr. Kim’s leadership, this Center has provided a unique and valuable national platform for advancing the health of Asian American communities through community-engaged health and policy strategies. Dr. Kim’s research has contributed greatly to the knowledge base of the health of Asian American communities and the nuanced and complex factors influencing disparities across these diverse populations. The overarching focus of Dr. Kim’s research is on generating the evidence to reduce cancer health disparities among racial and ethnic minority populations by utilizing community-engaged health services research. For over 15 years, Dr. Kim’s research has been centered on the rigorous development and evaluation of multi-level strategies to advance health equity. Dr. Kim is the principal investigator of the NCI supported P20, CDC Colorectal Cancer Control and the AHRQ Partnership for Healthier Asians award to address issues of cancer disparities research and implementation and dissemination science across Asian-and African American communities.
