Happy Valentines Day from the ACS NCCRT

This Holiday, We Are Thinking of Our Volunteers and Loved Ones

Throughout the year, volunteers work with the ACS NCCRT to guide our strategic planning, plan our annual meeting, develop resources, review membership applications, evaluate award nominations, as well as spread the word about our collective work. We are so grateful for their many contributions! In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the ACS NCCRT staff have prepared a blog highlighting their efforts over the past year.

Looking for a new way to show your loved ones how much you care about them this Valentine’s Day? The American Cancer Society just launched a partnership with American Greetings, which allows anyone to share a digital greeting card with a loved one, telling them to get screened. As the campaign says, “take a look, pick a card, and send a little love that could make a big difference.”

ICYMI: Webinar Recording and March CRC News Roundup Submissions

Learn about and share public awareness opportunities in preparation for March

The ACS NCCRT has two opportunities for members and partners to learn from or promote CRC content:

  • The latest ACS NCCRT webinar, which took place last Wednesday, February 5, highlights how four diverse community organizations and health systems developed innovative public awareness strategies to promote timely colorectal cancer screening in the communities they serve. View the Recording and Slides now.
  • The ACS NCCRT invites members and partners to share their events, resources, and opportunities for others to get involved in their work while celebrating March as National Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Awareness Month. We will then share in a CRC News roundup in the lead up to March. Learn more and submit here

Aid Recruitment for the VOICES of Black Women Study

Celebrate Black History Month by Promoting This Critical, Health Equity-Focused Study

In May 2024, the American Cancer Society launched the VOICES of Black Women study—a long-term health study, which will be powered by the perspectives of 100,000 Black women in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The goal of this study is to better understand how and why health conditions like cancer disproportionately affect Black women so that we can strive for enhanced health outcomes for current and future generations. This study adds to ACS’s long history of conducting large-scale population studies (known as the Cancer Prevention Studies), where more than 2.5 million participants have helped us improve our understanding of cancer to inform guidelines for cancer screening and prevention, advocacy, and patient support programming. As such, VOICES is a continuation of this legacy and a manifestation of our vision of ending cancer as we know it, for everyone.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we are calling upon our members and partners to join us in this movement by sharing VOICES with your organization, membership, or network using the email template linked below. This message details how any individual can contribute to the health of Black women either by enrolling in the study (if eligible) or sharing with Black women in personal networks.
