2026 ACS Cancer Facts and Figures Published
This is the 75th Yearly Cancer Statistics Report Published By the ACS
Last week, the ACS published Cancer Statistics,2026, a scientific paper in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, and 2026 Cancer Facts and Figures, an educational companion for the paper. Both report annually on cancer facts and trends and have for 75 years. The new findings show, for the first time, the five-year relative survival rate for all cancers combined reached 70% for people diagnosed during 2015-2021 in the United States. Of note, the five-year survival rate for distant-stage rectal cancer has improved from 8% to 18% since the mid-1990s, showing survivorship gains from early detection and screening. However, there is still plenty of work to do with specific groups, including the increasing incidence and mortality rates for those under age 55 and with, for example, Alaskan Natives, who are 2-3 times more likely to be diagnosed and/or die from colorectal cancer (CRC) than any other ethnic group in the US. Read more high-level takeaways in the press release or visit the article or report below to explore more data specifically related to CRC as well as other cancers.
ACS NCCRT Steps Guide Appendices Updated
Appendices Are Now Available Directly Through the Webpage For the Steps Guide
The webpage for one of the ACS NCCRT’s most popular resources, the Steps for Increasing CRC Screening Rates: A Manual for Primary Care Practices (Steps Guide), was recently updated to make it even easier to use. The Steps Guide provides a step-by-step manual for primary care practices to increase their CRC screening rates with evidence-based and expert-endorsed strategies. The webpage includes exemplary case studies as well as a sell sheet for those wishing to approach clinical leadership with reasoning to invest in increasing CRC screening. Now, the Steps Guide can be downloaded alone with the appendices directly digitized on our website, including sample patient letters and call scripts. To learn more and explore the full breadth of the Steps Guide and it’s aligning resources, visit our website.

ICYMI: 2025 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting Slides and Recordings Available
Select Content Can Be Shared with Partners or Colleagues
In December, the ACS NCCRT announced that select recordings and slides are available on our website from our 2025 Annual Meeting, held in Nashville, TN from November 19-21. Newly Updated ACS National Roundtable Bylaws Available
Bylaws Are Now Universal Across ACS National Roundtables
Over the past year, a cross-roundtable Bylaws Committee worked together with American Cancer Society (ACS) team members to develop a new, universal set of ACS National Roundtable Bylaws. These bylaws replace prior individual governance documents and establish a shared framework that clarifies member expectations and aligns governance structures across all roundtables.
The updated bylaws largely reflect how roundtables already operate today, formalizing existing practices rather than introducing significant change for our membership. We are grateful to the Bylaws Committee—Dr. Doug Wood (ACS National Lung Cancer Roundtable), Dr. Paul Schroy (ACS National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable [NCCRT]), Dr. Electra Paskett (ACS National Roundtable on Cervical Cancer), Dr. Angelo Moore (ACS National Navigation Roundtable), and Dr. Yaw Nyame (ACS National Prostate Cancer Roundtable)—for their thoughtful guidance throughout this process.
The new bylaws went into effect on 1/5/2026 and are now available on our website.
Recording: Virtual Tour of the ACS Cancer Screening Disparity Atlas
The Session Was Held on January 14 and Was Designed to Be Interactive
Last week, the ACS hosted a live virtual tour of the ACS Cancer Screening Disparity Atlas, a state-of-the-art dashboard developed by the Geospatial Solutions and Early Detections teams. The Dashboard can help uncover gaps in cancer screening and outcomes through interactive maps, data, and insights related to Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs). To learn more, explore the Cancer Screening Disparities Atlas, and view the recording and slides from the session.
Many thanks for the great work you do!
