New Resource: CRC Screening in the African Methodist Episcopal Church Community

This Project Focused on Increasing CRC Screening Through Tailored Messaging and an Action Plan

The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church Resource Guide provides helpful resources for promoting CRC screening among the members of the AME Church community. This project was partly inspired by market research included in ACS NCCRT’s Messaging Guidebook for Black & African American People: Messages to Motivate for Colorectal Cancer Screening. The guide and project materials were created with the support of the American Cancer Society (ACS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research (KPCHR), and the AME Church. The resource outlines how church members, healthcare professionals, and other partners came together to create locally relevant and culturally appropriate screening messages based on scientific health information. The concept is based on Boot Camp Translation, which can be used to tailor CRC messaging in different communities, and more information about the process is available on the resource page.

New Resource: Promising Practices Supporting the Sustainability of Patient Navigation

The ACS National Navigation Roundtable is Sharing a New Implementation Guide

The ACS National Navigation Roundtable (ACS NNRT) is promoting their newly released resource titled, “Promising Practices Supporting the Sustainability of Patient Navigation: An Implementation Guide”. This guide was developed to provide practical strategies to sustain and institutionalize patient navigation in multiple settings, with real world examples. It was created through partnership with the ACS Leadership in Oncology Navigation (ACS LION) program and the ACS Patient Navigation Capacity Building Initiative, and is based upon the Patient Navigation Sustainability Assessment Tool (PNSAT) from the Colorado Cancer Screening Program (CCSP) led by Andrea Dwyer, MPH. It also shares tools from the Center for Public Health Systems Science (CPHSS) at Washington University in St. Louis.
