2025 ACS NCCRT National Leadership Award

Each year, the ACS NCCRT Steering Committee honors an individual that has shown tremendous leadership in colorectal cancer prevention and control. This year, we are thrilled to recognize Richard Wender, MD, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Having served in numerous cancer prevention and control leadership roles, including as the first Chief Cancer Control Officer of the American Cancer Society (2013-2020) and the Chair of the ACS NCCRT (2012-2021), Dr. Wender’s continuous advocacy for the importance of cancer prevention and early detection has left an indelible impact on our work and our membership has benefitted from his steadfast commitment to our collective mission.

Join us on the morning of Friday, November 21st to congratulate Dr. Wender when he is presented with the ACS NCCRT National Leadership Award for Lifetime Achievement.

ICYMI: ACS NCCRT Steering Committee Nominations

Nominate Someone or Yourself to Help Guide the Future of the ACS NCCRT

Nominations are open for the ACS NCCRT Steering Committee and due by 11:59pm ET on Monday, September 22, 2025. This dedicated group guides our mission to reduce the incidence of and mortality from colorectal cancer (CRC) in the US through coordinated leadership, strategic planning, and advocacy.

Who can be nominated?

You can nominate yourself or a colleague from an ACS NCCRT member organization. Representatives from Corporate or Affiliate member organizations cannot serve but may nominate others. This year, the Steering Committee is especially interested in receiving nominations for leaders from the primary care or lived experience space.

Why serve?

Steering Committee members play a vital role in driving ACS NCCRT priorities, representing us in the field, shaping national meetings and projects, and helping recruit future leaders. Learn more about the responsibilities, time commitment, and selection process here.

If you’re interested in nominating yourself or someone else, please submit by 11:59pm ET, September 22, 2025. If nominating a colleague, please allow time for them to complete their materials before the deadline.

ACS NCCRT Workshop at the 2025 CHI – Community Health Conference & EXPO

Session Showcased Strategies for Reaching Rural Communities for Health Center Leaders

The ACS NCCRT was honored to have been invited to host a workshop at the 2025 CHI – Community Health Conference & EXPO in Chicago, Illinois on August 16, the premiere gathering of the nation’s Community Health Centers, the largest network of primary care providers in the nation. The session introduced the ACS NCCRT’s recent resource, Increasing Colorectal Cancer Screening in Rural Communities: A Practical Guide, emphasizing best practices and case study examples relevant to health center settings. Kudos to the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), a longtime ACS NCCRT member, for putting together a fantastic agenda and to co-presenters Dr. James Hotz, Michele Ledbetter, and Emily Bell for hosting a dynamic session.
