New Lead Time Messaging Guidebook: A Tool to Encourage On-Time Colorectal Cancer Screening

Last month, we announced the release of the ACS NCCRT’s latest resource: Lead Time Messaging Guidebook: A Tool to Encourage On-Time Colorectal Cancer Screening. This guidebook is intended to provide you with information and tools to help motivate individuals at average and heightened risk for colorectal cancer (CRC) to discuss screening prior to the recommended screening age. Our belief is that this will increase the likelihood that they will prioritize getting screened on-time for CRC.

Register for our webinar on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 PM ET to learn more about this new resource and the market research that helped inform this work.

The webcast is free and is open to ACS NCCRT members, 80% Pledge partners, CDC grantees, ACS and ACS CAN staff, and other partners working to increase colorectal cancer screening rates. Pre-registration is required.

New from the American Cancer Society

Training and Credentialing Program for Patient Navigators

The American Cancer Society is excited to announce the launch of Leadership in Oncology Navigation (ACS LIONTM), a standardized training and credentialing program for patient navigators who deliver essential non-clinical support.

Available January 1, 2024, ACS LION meets the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) training requirements for “Principal Illness Navigation” reimbursement, as introduced in the 2024 CMS Physician Fee Schedule, and is aligned to professional oncology navigation (PONT) standards.

Priced at $495 per learner, this program is completed online and is self-paced. Grants for learners are available. Details about the program and course modules will be available on January 1 at cancer.org/navigationcredential.

In addition to training and credentialing, ACS, in collaboration with the ACS National Navigation Roundtable, will continue to serve as a national convener of stakeholders interested in the implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of patient navigation. We’ll offer a variety of resources to help oncology providers build effective and efficient professional navigation services.

Early in 2024, we will host the first in a series of live and recorded webinars to provide focused, practical guidance to oncology teams interested in enhancing and billing for professional navigation services.

Webinar dates:

  • Available January 4: CMS Principal Illness Navigation Documentation & Billing Primer (recorded webinar)
  • January 12, 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. ET or January 23, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. ET: ACS Leadership in Oncology Navigation (live session, featuring Drs. Arif Kamal and Shanthi Sivendran)
