New Research Brief: Association Between Medicaid Expansion and 5-Year Survival Among Individuals Diagnosed with Cancer
The Brief Was Published in “Cancer Discovery” in December 2025
The ACS NCCRT would like to highlight a recently published research brief in the journal, “Cancer Discovery” titled, Association between Medicaid Expansion and 5-Year Survival among Individuals Diagnosed with Cancer. The authors used the difference-in-differences (DD) approach to look at 5-year cause-specific survival comparing Medicaid expansion states with those that have not expanded Medicaid. While examining colorectal cancers and Medicaid expansion specifically, the DD was statistically significant at 1.31 percentage points with a 95% confidence interval, 0.26-2.37, showing the importance of access to insurance and care for survival rates. To learn more about their methodology and outcomes, including examination of other cancers and variables, read the research brief.
