New Blog: How Marshall Increased Their Screening Rate to 83%

Read Our Newest Blog on the Work of One of the 2025 National Achievement Honorees

As part of a series, the ACS NCCRT is thrilled to highlight our 2025 National Achievement Award winners with in-depth blogs on their work. This time, we are focusing on Marshall, a health system located in El Dorado County, CA. After looking at their data, they saw that CRC screening rates for rural and younger patients (ages 45-49) were down 20-30% CRC compared to the general population. To target them, they developed a comprehensive outreach campaign, recruited clinician champions and educated their clinical teams, minimized financial barriers, and provided follow-up support for patients. To learn more about their thoughtful approach to the work, lessons learned, and what was essential to their success, read their guest blog today!

Comment Opportunity: National Coverage Determination on CRC Screening Options

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is Seeking Comments on CRC Biomarker Testing

Medicare covers certain CRC screening tests and procedures for Medicare beneficiaries that meet eligibility criteria and may change or add coverage through a national coverage determination (NCD). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is currently seeking public comment on coverage for non-invasive biomarker screening tests for CRC among Medicare beneficiaries, including multi-target stool RNA (mt-sRNA) tests. Comments must be submitted through the CMS website by October 10.

New ACS Resource: CRC Mortality Learning Community Recordings Available

The Learning Community Was Targeted at State Cancer Coalitions

Over time, researchers and practitioners have observed marked disparities in CRC mortality rates across certain groups and geographic areas while CRC screening rates remain the same or increase for the same disparate groups and areas. This five-session learning community was created by the ACS to address this with state cancer coalitions as the focus and took place from May-September 2025. The learning community’s overall goal was to increase integration of interventions mitigating CRC mortality disparities into the state comprehensive cancer coalition planning process. A recording of each session is now available in the ACS NCCRT Resource Center along with helpful links and copies of the presentations.

The ACS acknowledges and thanks the CDC for its support of ACS staff, and in the development and dissemination of this learning session, under cooperative agreement NU58DP007540 awarded to the ACS. The learning community’s contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of CDC.

Member Highlight: “Lead from Behind” Campaign from the Colorectal Cancer Alliance

The Campaign Features Katie Couric and Raises Awareness for CRC

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of sharing her colonoscopy on TODAY, Katie Couric teamed up with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, an ACS NCCRT member, and Ryan Reynolds’ entertainment company, Maximum Effort, to form a campaign called “Lead from Behind”. The campaign is a series of entertaining videos featuring celebrities breaking the stigma surrounding CRC to spark conversations about screening. Couric, a veteran journalist and respected media personality, became a vocal advocate for CRC awareness after losing her husband to the disease. Couric urges everyone to get checked regardless of genes or family history, because CRC can be silent and deadly, and it does not discriminate. Watch the video

Many thanks for the great work you do!
