New Member Resource: Colorectal Cancer Care Report

Fight Colorectal Cancer Previews the Upcoming Report

This week, Fight Colorectal Cancer released the Executive Summary of their Colorectal Cancer Care Report, which establishes clear, actionable goals for colorectal cancer screening and care that stakeholders across the colorectal cancer community can rally around. This November, Fight Colorectal Cancer will release the full report in conjunction with a presentation at the 2024 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting.

New Member Resource: Cancer Screening in Tribal Communities Listening Session Guide

The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors Created and Shared the Guide

Supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors partnered with Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research to engage the Great Plains Tribal Leaders’ Health Board (GPTLHB) and the South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency in a Listening Session project. The project brought together American Indian community members to develop culturally and locally relevant colorectal cancer screening messages and materials. Based on learnings from the Listening Session project, their new Listening Session Guide provides details and best practices for implementing a community engagement session.

Are you interested in learning more about this work and planning to attend the 2024 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting? You won’t want to miss the GPTLHB ‘s presentation on this work in the “Public Awareness Strategies to Promote Colorectal Cancer Screening: Best practices and successes from across the country” concurrent session on November 21st.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Approved a New Test to Screen for CRC

ACS NCCRT Corporate Associate Exact Sciences Produces the Test

Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a next generation multitarget stool DNA test for average-risk screening that screens for both colorectal cancer (CRC) and precancer. The Cologuard Plus™ test, developed by Exact Sciences, is now approved for adults age 45 or older who are at average risk for CRC and is expected to be available in 2025. Learn more about the performance characteristics of the test in this New England Journal of Medicine publication.

The 2024 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting will feature a panel on the state of the science of current and emerging CRC screening tests. We look forward to engaging our members in discussion around what this approval and other recent CRC test developments mean for the landscape of CRC screening.
