New ACS NCCRT Resource:

Increase CRC Screening Rates Through Coalition Work

This week, the ACS NCCRT released “Tailoring Colorectal Cancer Screening Messaging: A Practical Coalition Guide”. This resource is targeted at coalition members and leaders who are looking to make highly effective campaigns to increase colorectal cancer screening rates in their communities, especially for those hardest to reach. The step-by-step guide provides practical tips and strategies as well as successful case studies to walk coalitions through the process. 

We would like to thank to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for their support, as well as the following partners for generously sharing their stories as case studies in the toolkit, showing how the steps can be implemented and adapted in real communities:

Register for the 2023 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting to Lock in the Regular Registration Rate

We hope you are planning to join us at the 2023 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting on November 15-17, 2023 in Houston, Texas! We are pleased to share that an updated working agenda is now available to view on the meeting webpage. We are excited to welcome so many esteemed researchers, public health practitioners, and policy leaders to our program, with ample opportunity for our members to discuss and engage with their peers.  

Be sure to complete your registration by October 15 at 11:59 PM PT to receive the regular registration rate of $350 before the late registration rate of $400 goes into effect on October 16. Plus, hotel rooms are filling up fast! Follow the link in the registration website to book your hotel stay in our room block.

Opportunity to promote upcoming events and recently released resources: If you are attending the annual meeting as and ACS NCCRT member and would like to promote an upcoming no-cost event or recently released (2023) resource that is directly relevant to colorectal cancer screening, please prepare a single, widescreen PowerPoint slide and email it to [email protected] by end of day Monday, October 30. Slides will be shared in a rotating deck during the networking lunch on Thursday, November 16th.

Recent Updates, Research & Resources to Support Increased Colorectal Cancer Screening in Community Health Centers

Did you miss the ACS NCCRT’s most recent Blue Star Conversation on September 11, 2023? Now you can view the slides and watch the replay! The purpose of the webinar was to provide an overview of findings from a recent study on CRC screening after mailed fecal immunochemical test (FIT) outreach in a newly eligible 45-49-year-old community health center population, as well as to provide updates on trends in CRC screening in community health centers and recently released resources to support health center work to increase CRC screening.

Contribute to Our Search for a New ACS NCCRT Vice Chair

The ACS NCCRT is seeking nominations from our members to identify a new Vice Chair to serve with ACS NCCRT Chair, Dr. Steven Itzkowitz. The term of office for the Vice-Chair will be a three (3) year renewable term (up to two consecutive terms). 

Submit your nomination for the Vice Chair position by following the link to fill out the Interest Form below. The ACS NCCRT team will then follow up with submissions for a copy of their CV and formal Statement of Interest.

Process for Selecting a New Vice Chair  

• Nominees must currently serve on the Roundtable through an ACS NCCRT member organization.  
• Representatives from our Corporate Associates may not serve on the Steering Committee, but they may nominate other candidates.  
• Nominees can be self-selected or nominated by a colleague, preferably from a participating ACS NCCRT member.   
• Nominees are asked to submit a Statement of Interest (1,000 word maximum) along with a CV by 12pm ET on September 18, 2023. 
• The ACS NCCRT Nominating Committee will review nominations and may request an interview with the nominees, as needed.  
• The Nominating Committee prepares a recommended slate, which is emailed to ACS NCCRT members on behalf of the Steering Committee. The slate will be sent to the Roundtable membership before the Annual Meeting (the 2023 ACS NCCRT Annual Meeting will take place November 15-17, 2023, in Houston, Texas).  
• The slate will be voted on at the Annual Meeting on November 16, 2023. A majority vote of the membership is required to approve the slate.  

Benefits  

• Demonstrate national leadership and vision in furthering the cause of colorectal cancer prevention and early detection in the United States.  
• Opportunity to influence the Roundtable’s direction and progress on its shared life-saving mission.  
• Work closely with the Steering Committee members, who are themselves an exceptional group of leaders who generate a lot of energy, momentum, and good ideas on critical issues.   

Duties and Responsibilities  

• Assume the role of Chair when needed.  
• Carry out responsibilities as requested by the Chair. 
• Cultivate excellent working relationships with community leaders involved in this initiative in a way that can inspire collective action.  
• Serve as a subject matter expert.  
• Support and offer guidance to ACS NCCRT staff members to manage and implement the projects and activities of the Roundtable.  
• Represent the Roundtable externally via the media, collaborations, presentations, and advisory committees.  
• Cultivate a focus on ACS NCCRT’s health equity principles through seeking diverse membership, fostering conditions for everyone to be included, engaging in the community, and using data to understand disparities and develop Roundtable strategies.  
• Identify potential funding sources to support the Roundtable’s goals and priorities.  
• Build ACS NCCRT’s identity as a respected, neutral convener among a broad spectrum of national partners.  
• Assist in recruiting high-level professionals and volunteers to lead and participate in activities and committees including the Steering Committee and Strategic Priority Teams.
