American Cancer Society Releases Cancer Statistics for African American and Black People in 2025

This Year’s Report Finds More to Do Regarding Health Equity

On February 20, 2025, the American Cancer Society (ACS) released the latest edition of Cancer Statistics for African American and Black People, which continues to show a disproportionate cancer burden in the group compared to others in the United States. This year, the publication found a 40-50% higher risk of CRC death for Black and African American people, affirming the work that the ACS NCCRT continues to do to address health equity via our priority areas. View the scientific article and the “fast facts” consumer-friendly publication, and visit our Messaging Guidebook for Black & African American People to take steps to address the disparities through CRC screening messaging.

Colorectal Cancer Alliance: State of Screening Study Findings Recently Released

Study Documents Potentially Fatal Attitudes & Misconceptions Among Americans

The Colorectal Cancer Alliance, an ACS NCCRT member, has recently published their State of Screening Study and found more than half of Americans (51%) prioritize household chores over colorectal cancer screenings, and 69% would rather file their taxes than get a colonoscopy. With colorectal cancer cases rising, particularly among younger adults, their study findings highlight a gap in awareness and misconceptions that could cost lives. The study also found that many people (57%) don’t realize that screenings do more than detect cancer—they can actually prevent it by removing precancerous polyps. When asked, 98% of those surveyed said they would be more likely to get screened if they knew this crucial fact.
